Shiatsu is a Japanese bodywork therapy based in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  The foundation of the TCM system is the understanding that the body contains well-defined pathways and stores of life-energy (Qi) that connect every part of the body and regulate all our functions.   It is believed that many (if not most) of our illnesses, discomforts, and complaints are related to imbalances in our life-energy system.

The goal of a Shiatsu treatment is to promote healing by assessing the existing imbalances, developing a treatment strategy to correct those imbalances, and then providing the appropriate treatment.

Acupressure
is a bodywork therapy similar to Shiatsu, except that the treatment is generally less active and involves sustained holding or pressing of acupoints to achieve the treatment goals.

What is a Shiatsu/Acupressure Treatment Like?
The session will begin with an intake and assessment.  You will be asked some questions and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the treatment or the practitioner.  The assessment serves to customize the treatment for each client.

The treatment is given in a comfortable and quiet atmosphere. You will remain clothed, so it is recommended that you wear loose and comfortable clothing (sweatpants/tights and a t-shirt work well).  Relaxing music may be played and you will be lying on a comfortable cotton futon.

Generally, the full body is treated during a session, including work on the back, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, stomach, head and face.  Various techniques include touch, pressure, passive movement and stretching, acupressure, and energy-balancing.

The amount of pressure and the techniques used will be adjusted to your comfort level.  You will always be touched with respect and compassion.

At the completion of the session, self-care suggestions and recommendations may be offered to empower your own healing and self-care efforts.

Wellness Counseling
sessions offer the opportunity to review your Health and Life goals with a practitioner who will work with you to develop an action plan for reaching those goals and for working through the blocks and frustrations that often arise when making changes in one’s lifestyle.

The wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with Holistic and Eastern philosophies, serves as the foundation for these sessions - offering unique perspectives and powerful tools for reaching your health and life goals.

These sessions can also be used to explore your illness or condition from TCM and Holistic perspectives, providing insights that can assist you in creating a strategy for self-care and treatment - a service not typically offered in conventional medical care.

On-Site Shiatsu Chair Treatments
are available by arrangement.  Provide an experience that everybody loves at your next event or party.  Reward your employees and office staff with deeply relaxing 15-20 minute treatments given in a massage chair.
